As long as you are drinking in relative moderation, drinking can be a fun way to loosen up and bond with your fellow man. Unfortunately, sometimes this liquid bonding can lead to excess–which leads to much less fun the next day.

Beyond the annoyingly obvious statement of “just don’t drink,” finding the right hangover cure for you can be an adventure down a thrilling path of false folklore and general balderdash.

In an effort to help ease your post-Cinco De Mayo pain, we’ve collected Ten Hangover Remedies ranging from the personal and disputable to scientifically proven acts of common sense.

10. A Breakfast Burrito & A Regular Coke

Every time we are massively hungover, our first cravings are always for a breakfast burrito and one sparkling, sugary can of regular Coca-Cola. While we thought this was just a fluke on our part, after further research (i.e. years of drinking with other people) we learned that this is not an uncommon combination for hangover alleviation.

It’s sort of like that greasy spoon diner breakfast that allegedly soaks up the alcohol–compacted into a handheld modern gastronomy miracle. Even though caffeine is dehydrating, the carbonation of the soda helps alleviate queasiness while the sugar and caffeine give a false sense of energy.

Enough energy to chug a gallon of water, which is probably the actual cure.

If times can’t get tougher for the singer, after being booed during a concert in Belgarde [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Amy Winehouse[/lastfm] has decided cancel her entire upcoming European tour. The singer’s spokesman confirmed today stating “Amy Winehouse is withdrawing from all scheduled performances.” This comes after a performance in Belgrade that some local press outlets called a “disaster”. Apparently, the audience started to boo the singer after she appeared lost and incoherent. Winehouse was stumbling on stage, had trouble adjusting her shoes, mumbled while singing the song “Just Friends”, and repeatedly left the stage with her band playing throughout the concert.  Thus the angry response from fans who reportedly pay around 35 euros per a ticket.

The 12 date tour would have had Winehouse in Austria, Italy, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Romania and Hungary throughout the summer. The singer recently had a short stay at the London Priory clinic for an addiction to alcohol. She is now a receiving treatment as an outpatient.

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe recently opened up about his battle with alcohol.

Radcliffe sat down with GQ magazine to talk about the upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and somehow talk turned to alcohol. Apparently while filming the 6th film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the star had a fairly serious dependency on alcohol. “I became so reliant on [alcohol] to enjoy stuff,” Radcliffe said.

“There were a few years there when I was just so enamored with the idea of living some sort of famous person’s lifestyle that really isn’t suited to me,” he also said to GQ.

Radcliffe is thankful that there were no paparazzi around to document his struggle, so he was able to keep it out of the papers.

He also adds, “As much as I would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time, that doesn’t work for me. I’d just rather sit at home and read, or go out to dinner with someone, or talk to someone I love, or talk to somebody that makes me laugh.”

He has been sober since August.

By: Ian Gavan/ Getty Images

Le Petite Puppy is a pet store in New York City that is surrounded by a number of bars, and they have now decided to take action against drunk puppy purchasers.

It seems that when people are intoxicated, the thought of purchasing an adorable puppy makes perfect sense. But the owners of Le Petite Puppy know that many of the inebriated shoppers that leave with a puppy didn’t think through their purchase, and the puppy might be going to a less than ideal home. So now the store is taking action.

Now they will not sell a puppy so someone that is clearly intoxicated, and they won’t even allow you to hold a puppy while drunk because they don’t want any of the puppies dropped.

Store owner Dana Rich tells WINS-AM that she instructs people who have clearly been drinking to come back the next day.

Though the store may be losing money, they feel it is definitely smarter to make sure that the dogs go to good homes.

Will Your Partner’s Drinking Habits Lead to Divorce?

$

In a recent study regarding alcohol consumption featured in ScienceDaily, research provides evidence for a topic that should be of concern for married, or soon to be married, couples — that drinking alcohol increases the risk of divorce.

According to one of the study’s researchers, Fartein Ask Torvik, not only do the study’s findings show that the more people drink, the higher the risk of divorce, but also that the compatibility of both partners’ drinking behavior is associated with divorce as well.

If a married couple drinks about the same amount of alcohol, or if both people completely abstain from drinking alcohol, the risk of divorce is lowered.

Interestingly, one of the other results of the study is that heavy alcohol consumption among women is more strongly associated with divorce than among men.

“The risk of divorce is estimated to be tripled when the husband’s level drinking is low and the wife’s drinking is heavy, compared with couples where both drink lightly.”

According to the researchers, this can be explained by the following factors:

  • The average woman is more strongly affected by heavy drinking than the average man, so heavy-drinking women may be more impaired than heavy-drinking men.
  • Society is less accepting of heavy-drinking women than heavy-drinking men.
  • A wife’s heavy drinking may interfere more with everyday family life.
  • A husband may be more likely to the leave the spouse than the wife may be when major problems occur due to drinking.

The researchers warn that based on these findings, couples who intend on getting married should be aware of the drinking pattern of their partner since it is proven to be a possible problem. Ideally, partners should drink the same amounts as each other, or not drink at all.

STUDY: Beer Bellies Are a Myth

$

According to a new study, the “beer belly” is actually just a myth.

The truth is, bloated bellies come from all alcohol – not just beer.

Ryan Kelly

Ryan Kelly

Researchers found that there’s nothing “magical” about the alcohol in beer to give someone a bigger belly or contain extra calories… it is more about the amount of alcohol that is consumed than the type.

The myth may have started because those who drink beer drink more. After all, a beer contains 12 ounces per serving, while a glass of wine contains about 5 ounces, and a shot is about 1.5 ounces.

Henrik Sorensen

Henrik Sorensen

The study said that whether it’s beer, wine, or hard liquor, drinking too much alcohol can cause a fluid buildup in the abdomen, which is a side effect of liver damage.

So at the end of the day, there’s nothing special about beer to fear.

But attacking your liver by binge drinking any alcohol each night is definitely a bad idea!!

Lawsuit Claims Many Popular Wines Contain Arsenic

You read it right. According to CBS News, a class action lawsuit was filed Thursday against more than two dozen California wineries, alleging their wines also have alarmingly high amounts of arsenic in them! Which wines? Some of our favorites: Menage a Trois, Sutter Home, Franzia, Charles Shaw, Cupcake and Beringer wines are just some of the labels named in the suit. But, the lawsuit primarily seems to affect white wines. The wines identified in the suit are primarily budget-friendly white or blush wines that include Moscato, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc.

Here’s the deal. A lab in Denver tested some of our favorite budget wines, which are found most often in your favorite grocery stores. Yikes! According to the folks who did the testing, it wasn’t just a small amount of arsenic found in the wines, it was nearly four times the federal limit in some bottles!

An attorney familiar with the case says, “Consumers may be buying cheap wines, wines that are less than $5 dollars a bottle. But they may be paying with their health.” A trade group for the California wine industry released a statement saying, “We believe this allegation is false and misleading, and that all wines being sold in the U.S. marketplace are safe.”

Um, cheers?

You know, the wine headache that can sometimes accompany one-or-two too many glasses of your favorite vino. But, that’s not all!!! There’s more! Scientists say they can also alter the yeast such that it also boosts all the health benefits of drinking wine!

So raise your glass high! To health! To no hangover! To science! To Friday. To whatever!! Cheers.
