R15, 1431 R street. This bar is the place to be if you’re trying to check out a sporting event and eat some great food. Complete with 14 flat screen TVs equipped with cable boxes that include just about every sport or gaming event, four pool tables and comfortable couches to have a drink in! Or perhaps you are more interested in having a private event for you and your friends. Check out their SKYYBox on the second floor! Not only are the drinks well priced, but the food isn’t half bad. One yelper states “The burger was actually really good and the wings were spot on the way I like it” giving this place 4 out of 5 stars.
University of Beer, 1510 16th street. For all you beer enthusiasts out there, this is place to be. The name says it all, this place has over 7 different types of beers, including all kinds of limited edition beers, IPA’s and a variety of stouts. If you have yet to figure out your favorite beer, the university professors are sure to help you find it. The daily specials offer a variety of beers in a selection of prices, one yelper adds that the “Ordering process was more difficult than it should have been” but in the same review states that there were “Lots of beer on tap so that was good.” With 3 out of 5 stars on Yelp you may have to come check out this university to decide for yourself.
The Mercantile Saloon, located on 1928 L street can be dubbed one of the best places to pregame before hitting the clubs. One Yelp user mentions that if you want to get drunk on a budget, The Merc is the place to be. All their drinks have been described as cheap strong drinks, especially during their happy hours. My favorite, the pink lemonade! Not only are all the bartenders super welcoming but everyone in the bar is great as well. Complete with an outdoor patio, The Merc is the place to stop by before a night out, just make sure you have cash on you.
Dive Bar, 1016 K street. What makes this place different than other bars in Sacramento is the live entertainment. Here is a place that has a live mermaid in the above aquarium. Yes, a live mermaid! Well, she’s a human of course, but where else can you get a cold drink and see a mermaid? With jukebox music, and great drinks, a yelp review talks about how this place is a great place to meet up with friends and hang out. My friends and I go here often to listen to music and catch up.” So if you’re looking for entertainment and a chill place to have a few drinks with friends, you should probably start here.
Faces on K street is the place to be is you love dancing. This place has not 1, but 3 separate dance floors, and get this: each dance floor plays a different kind of music! Not to mention a VIP lounge, an outdoor patio and yes a heated outdoor pool for your enjoyment. Faces also offers weekly events ranging from karaoke to country line dancing. But of course this is an article about bars, and Faces, well they have 15 different bars including a video bar. The drinks are delicious at a moderate price range. So if you are looking to break a sweat and meet some interesting people, dress to impress and try checking out Faces on their Welfare Wednesday’s for cheap drinks.
Badlands, also on K street, offers a luxurious take on a dance club. With high ceilings holding a large mirror ball this atmosphere is sure to make you start dancing. A light show, TV’s that play music videos, a lighted waterfall and of course 2nd floor lounge. Outside there is a balcony that overlooks the beautiful downtown Sacramento, and a bar right outside. But don’t worry, there are also three more bars inside the venue. Inside, the 400 sq. feet dance floor will let you have a great time with friends. Moderately priced drinks, great music and a variety of events including Liquid Therapy Happy Hour on 6/12 and their annual All White Party. It’s no surprise that the Yelpers give this place 4 out of 5 stars!
LowBrau, 1050 20th street. Looking for some great BBQ and cold beers? This place has both. From all eateries pork, like polish sausage and bratwurst this place will sure curve your appetite. With a variety of German beers on tap the 3.5 out of 5 stars on Yelp has to do with the combination of good food at decent prices. Great atmosphere, busy crowds, and an outdoor patio to enjoy. One review came to this bar not liking beer, but still left satisfied, they said “I’m not a big fan of beer but my server recommended a cider they had on tap and I absolutely loved it” Perhaps a lunch hangout with friends with some great beer on the side, this could be the place for you.
Sidetrax, 2007 K street if you can’t decide between a relaxed lounge setting or a lively dance floor this is the place to go. Sidetrax has both! There is a lounge and bar that serves up a variety of specialty cocktails and martinis. If you’re in the mood for some quality food, don’t worry, they have that to with their Savory Bare-Fare menu. 15 flat screen TVs for your entertainment as well as two rooftop patios to enjoy the warm nights in Sacramento. One yelper describes the best part is the outdoor balcony that views the bar scene on the streets. Whether it’s catching up with your friends over a few martinis or breaking out your dance moves, this place can offer both!
Blue Cue, 1004 28th street. With 3.5 out of 5 stars this place can be deemed as classy and upscale with its tall ceilings or a fun place to hang out, listen to music and play some pool with your friends. The food menu ranges from the usual burgers to pizza, but they do have a variety of cocktails and beers on tap that is sure to please, especially during Happy Hour. Be sure to check out their list of events and if you’re into some fun competition among friends, be sure to check out their trivia night on Wednesdays. “Trivia is extremely fun and challenging and worth checking out” says one Yelp review, accompanied by 5 full stars.
The Bolt, 2560 Boxwood Street. Sacramento’s very own leather cowboy bar. Great people, great food, and one thing that sets this place apart from the rest, no parking fees or cover charges! Win. Of course this place is complete with great priced and delicious drinks. I’d go for the Midori Sour with an extra cherry or two. Not only are the drinks enjoyable, but their prices are too, especially during happy hour. With old fashioned juke box music, TVs displayed throughout the venue, this casual setting is great for meeting people and perhaps shooting a round of pool or two. Be sure to check out their calendar to find out when you can get free food and $1 beers!
